There are many methods to landing your dream job or getting hired by your ideal clients. Nobody’s path looks exactly the same but in general showing your worth upfront, in one form or another, does the trick.
One creative way to accomplish this is by finding the hole in a business and filling it when you introduce yourself.
First, identify the company or individual you want to hire you.
If you’re going to put in the work for this kind of plan, it is best to do it for companies that already seem like a right fit for you. In your perfect day, who would you work for? What kinds of problems would you be solving? What would your schedule look like?
Use these guiding questions and more to identify the company or individual.
Then, do some research. Get to know the brand and find what they’re missing or where their pain points are. Every business has pain points. When you figure out what they are, brainstorm ways you could contribute to the solution.
Execute an example of those ideas. Create a solution for them that you could implement. For instance, maybe their social media needs to be revamped. Sit down and make a social media marketing campaign for them that addresses their weak points.
Approach the individual or business with your plan. Explain you’re a big fan of what they do and that you noticed {that you have a highly successful product} but {you currently don’t have a large social media presence}.
Next, showcase how you could meet that need: {I believe social media would be a great tool to get your product in front of more people and build brand awareness. I’d love to take that on for you. I’ve created this example social media marketing campaign specific to your product. If you like it, go ahead and use it free of charge. If you don’t like it, just throw it away, no big deal.}
In this way, you’ll approach the company already as a partner rather than as just an employee. You’re proving your worth upfront and showing your dedication, drive, and initiative. This type of approach is much more likely to get some kind of response than throwing your resume at a hundred companies.
Of course, this method is a lot of work in advance and there’s no guarantee a company will say yes. However, it can be a highly effective way to build relationships that can be a game-changer on your way to your dream job!
