Benefits of Wellness in the Civilian Sector

Wellness is clearly very important when you’re in the military. It is often essential to be in good health to be able to perform your duties well. But did you know that wellness can benefit your career after the military too?

Maryville University reports that wellness can reduce absenteeism and increase your productivity and overall sense of well-being at work. If you’re healthy, odds are that you’ll feel better on the whole. You won’t be so sick that you can’t show up to work as often, meaning you won’t get as behind on important projects and deadlines. You’ll be able to think more clearly and be productive which your supervisors may recognize and value.

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital also reports that wellness can benefit employees through “increased well-being, self-image, and self-esteem.” You may also have better stress management and coping skills, increased social support, and lower out of pocket health care costs. On the whole, they report improved job satisfaction for employee wellness.
As you transition out of the military, part of creating your bigger future is maintaining your wellness so you can thrive in the career you land in. It can be hard to maintain discipline without the external motivation the military provides. ADU LIVE, our 21-day sprint course, spends a week focusing on wellness during transition and in life in the civilian sector. ADU LIVE is completely free for all past/present service members. More information and registration is available here.
