Omari’s Story

After graduating high school (barely) I started my military journey.  I was 17 years old and eager to start on the path of achieving my goal of becoming a U.S. Navy SEAL.  Yet, after 4 years of service I decided to exit the Navy. 30 Days after I left the Navy, I joined up again. In 1998, I had the honor to attend SEAL training, but was medically dropped.  A dear friend talked me into staying in the Navy despite not becoming a Navy SEAL.  And it was worth it.

At my 16 year mark (2009), I was Selected for Chief Petty Officer.  Becoming a Chief was unlike anything I could imagine. Well worth the wait.

I spent my last 6 years of my career supporting Naval Special Warfare Group ONE.  I retired 2015.

Entrepreneurship hit me in 2012.  I started my first business while still in the military.  In 2014, I attended my first American Dream U (ADU) event.  It was because of ADU I learned what was really possible outside the confines of the military.

So here I am… 6 Children, Married, Entrepreneur

My first year after was like starting from the bottom.  Even with a Bachelor’s degree and plenty of experience.  I completed two Master’s degrees and started 2 other companies.  But, every day I have to earn my spot.

I have to give credit where credit is due, ADU helped me to smooth out the rough edges.

A couple of tips for the next transitioning veteran who may find this story:

  1. Read everyday
  2. Go beyond “Networking” and build meaningful relationships with people who are where you want to be
  3. It’s going to get hard…keep the faith

Cheers,
